What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students plan and deliver presentations with a clear goal and a named audience. They adjust details, word choice, tone, organization, visuals, and delivery to fit the listeners.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can name the audience and explain the response they want. The presentation uses relevant evidence, suitable language and visuals, and a delivery style that fits the setting.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat every audience the same, using identical vocabulary, examples, and tone. They may add flashy slides that distract from the message, or confuse speaking loudly with effective delivery.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Present a 30-second request for a longer lunch period to the principal, then list two choices you made for that audience.

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs topic and audience cards, then have them build two one-minute talks using index cards and one visual.
Ask students how a school lunch proposal should change when presented to classmates, the principal, or families.
Play Audience Switch: students begin a pitch, draw a new audience card, and revise their wording and delivery on the spot.
Have students record a 60-second public service announcement for younger students about safe social media use.
