What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students plan and deliver presentations for a clear audience and goal. They adjust wording, details, examples, visuals, tone, pace, and delivery to fit the situation.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student chooses relevant details, language, examples, visuals, and delivery for a named audience and goal. The student can explain those choices and revise when the audience changes.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think the same wording and details work for every audience. They may change only the visuals while ignoring tone, background information, examples, pace, and delivery.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Give a 45-second pitch for a later school start to the principal, then name two choices you made for that audience.

Ways to Teach It
Students draw audience and purpose cards, build a three-slide presentation, and deliver it using details and visuals suited to the card.
Read two openings about later school start times, then discuss which better fits parents and which better fits students.
Play Audience Switch: midway through a one-minute talk, draw a new audience card and adjust wording, examples, tone, and pace.
Create a two-minute announcement about a school event for either families or students, then record it as a video or audio message.
