What Students Need to Do
- Students compare two quantities using ratio language and notation. They find unit rates and use equivalent ratios, tables, graphs, and equations to solve problems.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can interpret a ratio in context, generate equivalent ratios, and find a unit rate. They choose a useful representation and label quantities and units correctly.
Common Misconceptions
- Students often reverse the order of quantities or drop the units. They may add the same amount to both terms instead of multiplying both by the same factor.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Six notebooks cost $9. Find the cost per notebook and the cost of 14 notebooks, then show your reasoning with an equation or table.

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs colored counters to build a 2:3 ratio, scale it three ways, and record each equivalent ratio in a table.
