Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.

Common Misconceptions
- Students may reverse the divisor and dividend or treat division as commutative. They may also know multiplication facts but fail to connect them to related division facts.
How to Assess It
- Give students these six problems: 7 × 8, 9 × 6, 42 ÷ 7, 63 ÷ 9, 8 × 4, and 32 ÷ 4. Ask them to solve each without tools and write one related fact.
