What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students ask a simple question about a topic and gather useful facts from books, pictures, people, or teacher-selected sources. They organize facts on a template, record them with drawing, writing, or dictation, and share what they learned.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student asks a focused question with support and finds a fact that answers it. The student records the fact with words or a drawing, places it on a simple chart, and explains it to others.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may copy any detail they see, even when it does not answer their question. They may treat a picture guess as a fact or record the same fact twice. They may struggle to name where information came from.
How to Assess It
- Provide a short animal page with a photo and three facts. Ask students to choose one question, record one matching fact on a chart, and share it aloud.

Ways to Teach It
Set out books, labeled photos, and fact cards about frogs, then have students collect facts on a question-and-answer chart.
Read two short texts about bees, then ask, “How do bees help plants?” Students draw and label one answer.
Play Fact Match by having students pair question cards about weather with matching facts from provided picture and sentence cards.
Investigate which playground surface dries fastest after rain, then record observations with drawings and share a recommendation with the class.
