2.13 is a knowledge and skills statement. These are the student expectations under it.

Teacher's field guide

What Students Need to Do: Students ask a focused question and use a simple plan to find an answer. They choose useful information, tell firsthand sources from later accounts, record sources, and share results.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student asks a focused question, follows a simple plan, and finds useful facts in more than one source. The student explains the answer in their own words, names each source, and shares findings clearly.
Common Misconceptions: Students may copy sentences instead of explaining information in their own words. They may treat every source as useful, confuse firsthand evidence with later accounts, or forget to name sources.
How to Assess It: Give students a moon landing photograph and a short textbook paragraph. Ask them to label each source, write one research question, record one relevant fact, and name its source.

Lesson moves

Set out a leaf, a plant photograph, and two short books; students ask one question and collect evidence on sticky notes.
Ask, “Which source best answers our class question, and why?” then have students write a two-sentence claim with named evidence.
Play Source Sort: teams place interview, diary, photo, textbook, and website cards under primary or secondary, then defend one choice.
Students interview the school nurse about staying healthy, check one fact in a book, and present findings with both sources named.
