What Students Need to Do
- Students turn a broad topic into a clear research question. With teacher support, they choose useful sources, list their steps, and follow the plan. They revise the plan when needed.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can complete a simple planning sheet with a question, two sources, and ordered steps. The student uses the plan to gather facts and marks each step complete.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think the plan is the finished report rather than a guide for their work. They may choose sources that do not answer the question, skip steps, or resist changing the plan.
How to Assess It
- Give students the topic “frogs.” Ask them to write one research question, name two sources, and number three research steps in order.
