K.3 is a TEKS knowledge and skills statement. These are the student expectations under it.

Teacher's field guide

What Students Need to Do: Students use words such as over, under, near, far, left, and right to explain where something is. They find school locations and use maps and globes to locate places.
What Mastery Looks Like: Given a simple campus map, a student can point to places such as the office, library, or cafeteria. The student describes each place using accurate location words and identifies maps and globes as geographic tools.
Common Misconceptions: Students often mix up left and right or change them when facing another person. They may confuse near and far or treat a map picture as the actual place. Some students may call both maps and globes maps.
How to Assess It: Give students a simple school map. Ask them to circle the library, describe its location using two spatial words, and name the geographic tool shown.

Lesson moves

Hide a classroom toy, then have partners place it over, under, near, left, or right of named objects.
Show a campus map and ask, "Where is the cafeteria compared with the office?" Students answer using a location word.
Play Location Simon Says with directions such as stand left of a chair, move near the door, or hold a book overhead.
Take a campus walk with a simple map, stopping at the office, library, and cafeteria to describe each location.
