What Students Need to Do: Students compare who owns resources and who decides what to produce, how to produce it, and who receives it. They classify examples as traditional, command, market, or mixed systems and support each choice with evidence.
What Mastery Looks Like: Students correctly classify an economy from a short description and cite the details that guided them. They can compare two systems and explain how each affects producers and consumers.
Common Misconceptions: Students may treat every economy as a pure type instead of recognizing mixed systems. They may assume market economies have no government role or that command economies allow no private choices.
How to Assess It: Give students two short country scenarios. Ask them to classify each economy, cite one piece of evidence, and explain one difference between them.

Lesson moves

Give groups ownership, production, pricing, and distribution cards to sort under traditional, command, market, or mixed economy labels.
