What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students identify who decides which goods and services are made, how workers and resources are used, and who receives the products. They explain how those decisions differ across three economic models.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can classify an economic scenario and support the choice with details about decision-making. The student can compare the strengths and limits of each model without assuming real countries use only one.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may confuse command economies with any economy that has government rules. They may also think market economies have no government role, or that traditional economies cannot change.
How to Assess It
- Give students three short economic scenarios. Ask them to label each model and explain who decides what is made, how it is made, and who receives it.

Ways to Teach It
Give groups product, worker, tool, and customer cards, then have them build three production plans under different decision rules.
Ask students to write: Who chooses what gets made, the production method, and the buyers in each scenario, and why?
Run a three-corner scenario game where students move to traditional, command, or market, then defend their choice with one clue.
Trace a loaf of bread from farm to store, identifying where custom, government rules, and consumer demand shape decisions.
