SS.1.CG.3 is a Florida social studies standard. These are the benchmarks under it.

Teacher's field guide

What Students Need to Do: Students identify basic government leaders and describe their jobs. They explain how government makes rules, solves community problems, and provides services such as schools, roads, and fire protection.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student can match a leader or government worker to a simple responsibility. The student can name a public service and explain how it helps the community.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think one leader makes every rule or provides every service. They may confuse government services with private businesses, or believe rules exist only to punish people.
How to Assess It: Give students three picture cards showing a firefighter, a mayor, and a store cashier. Ask which roles connect to government and how each selected role helps people.

Lesson moves

Set up a classroom town with leader, firefighter, librarian, and road worker role cards, then have students solve a pretend community problem.
Ask students to draw and write about one government service that helps their family or neighborhood.
Play a matching game using picture cards for leaders, public workers, services, and the needs each one addresses.
Take a school walk to find public services, such as crossing signs, sidewalks, safety rules, and emergency equipment.
