K.10 is a Standards of Learning science standard. These are the key ideas and practices under it.

Teacher's field guide

What Students Need to Do: Students compare living, nonliving, natural, and human-made things at different times. They describe changes using drawings, counts, or simple measurements. They also tell whether changes happen quickly or slowly.
What Mastery Looks Like: Students can put pictures of a change in order and explain what is different. They can support the explanation with an observation, such as height, size, color, or amount.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think only living things change or that all changes happen quickly. They may confuse an object's movement with a lasting change, or rely on guesses instead of observations.
How to Assess It: Show pictures of a seed, sprout, and plant. Ask students to order them, name two changes, and explain whether the changes were fast or slow.

Lesson moves

Place an ice cube on a tray, trace the puddle every two minutes, and discuss what changed and how quickly.
Show two photos of the same tree in different seasons, then ask students to draw and label three changes.
Play a card sort using picture pairs labeled living, nonliving, natural, human-made, fast change, or slow change.
Walk around the school grounds and photograph cracked pavement, growing plants, faded signs, or new construction for a class change display.
