Common Misconceptions

Students may think a larger object is always heavier or a taller container always holds more. They may rely on touch instead of a thermometer or change measurement units midway.

How to Assess It

Give students two classroom objects, linking cubes, and a balance. Ask them to measure, record, and state which object is longer and heavier.

   Have pairs measure pencils with linking cubes, compare toy weights on a balance, and record results in a picture chart.
