What Students Need to Do

Students use ratio tables and proportion equations to find missing values in proportional situations. They apply scale factors to unit conversions. They estimate and calculate a percent of a whole number using benchmarks such as 10%, 25%, 50%, and 100%.

Students complete ratio tables and solve proportion equations while keeping quantities in the correct order. They convert units with a given factor and estimate percentages using benchmarks before calculating exact answers.

Common Misconceptions

Students may add the same amount instead of multiplying by the same factor. They may reverse ratios, cross multiply incorrectly, or treat 25% as 25. Unit labels are often dropped during conversions.

How to Assess It

Use a three-part exit ticket: complete a ratio table for 3 notebooks costing $6, convert 5 feet to inches, and find 20% of 70.
