What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students explore how familiar words relate and how close meanings differ through talk, play, and observation. They sort objects, connect opposites, describe the world, and act out variations among action words.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can explain a simple category and name or describe its members. The student pairs common opposites and chooses a specific action word that matches how someone moves.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may sort by an unrelated feature or treat all similar actions as identical. They may call two different words opposites simply because the pictured objects look different.
How to Assess It
- Give students familiar objects and action pictures. Ask them to sort one category, pair two opposites, and act out the difference between walk and march.
