What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students locate the named countries, rivers, seas, gulfs, canals, straits, and territories on world and regional maps. They use borders, coastlines, and nearby features to explain each location.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students correctly label the selected features on an unlabeled map. They also describe locations using clear spatial language, such as north of, between, along, or connecting.
Common Misconceptions
- Students often switch the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers or confuse the Persian Gulf with the Arabian Sea. They may treat the Gaza Strip as a country or confuse the Strait of Hormuz with the Suez Canal.
How to Assess It
- Give students a blank regional map and ask them to label five teacher-selected features. Add one prompt: Describe one feature's location using two nearby landmarks.
