What Students Need to Do

Students identify who decides what is produced, how goods are made, and who receives them. They compare traditional, command, market, and mixed economies across Southern and Eastern Asia.

Students can classify an economy from a short description and support the choice with specific evidence. They can place countries on a command-to-market continuum and explain why no modern economy is purely one type.

Common Misconceptions

Students may assume every economy fits one pure type or that mixed means an equal split. They may also confuse economic systems with political systems or levels of wealth.

How to Assess It

Give an exit ticket with two country scenarios. Students classify each economy, name the main decision-maker, and cite one detail as evidence.

   Give groups paper, scissors, and production rules, then compare output under command, market, and traditional decision systems.

   Write: Who should decide what a country produces, government planners, buyers and sellers, or customs, and what tradeoffs follow?

   Play a scenario-card relay where teams classify each decision as command, market, traditional, or mixed and justify their choice.

   Compare a product from China, India, Japan, or Korea, tracing how government rules and consumer demand shape its production.
