What This Cluster Means

What Students Need to Do

Students explain how education and skills, capital goods, natural resources, and entrepreneurship can increase production. They use evidence to judge how strongly each factor is present in Canada.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students connect each factor to a specific Canadian example, such as skilled workers, transportation networks, timber, or new businesses. They explain how the example affects productivity, jobs, or national output.

Common Misconceptions

Students may assume natural resources alone guarantee growth or that having resources means they are used efficiently. They may confuse capital goods with money and entrepreneurship with ordinary employment.

How to Assess It

Give students four Canadian examples and ask them to label each growth factor. Then have them explain how one example could increase Canada’s output.

Ways to Teach It

  1. Sort Canadian evidence cards into education, capital goods, natural resources, and entrepreneurship, then build a cause-and-effect chain for each factor.

  2. Write which factor most supports Canada’s economic growth, using one specific example and comparing it with another factor.

  3. Play four corners by reading Canadian examples aloud while students move to the matching growth factor and explain their choice.

  4. Compare a Canadian oil, timber, technology, or transportation company with the growth factors it depends on most.
