What This Cluster Means

What Students Need to Do

Students identify human capital, capital goods, natural resources, and entrepreneurship as sources of economic growth. They use facts about Australia to explain which factors are strong or limited and how each affects production and income.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students correctly classify examples such as worker training, mining equipment, iron ore, and new businesses. They explain how each example can raise productivity or gross domestic product using evidence about Australia.

Common Misconceptions

Students may confuse human capital with money or physical equipment. They may assume natural resources guarantee growth, or that entrepreneurship means any paid job rather than starting and managing a business.

How to Assess It

Give students four Australian examples: job training, mining machinery, coal deposits, and a new software company. Ask them to label each growth factor and explain how one could increase production.

Ways to Teach It

  1. Give groups cards showing Australian mines, schools, machines, and start-ups, then have them sort each by growth factor and explain its effect.

  2. Ask students which growth factor Australia should invest in next, using two facts from a short data sheet.

  3. Play a four-corners game with scenario cards as students move to human capital, capital goods, natural resources, or entrepreneurship.

  4. Use an Australian iron ore company profile to trace how resources, trained workers, equipment, and business risk create income.
