What This Cluster Means

What Students Need to Do

Students explain how human capital, capital goods, natural resources, and entrepreneurship affect economic growth. They use evidence to compare these factors across China, India, Japan, South Korea, and North Korea.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students can connect country data, such as literacy rates or infrastructure, to likely effects on economic growth. They can compare two countries and support their conclusions with accurate evidence.

Common Misconceptions

Students may assume natural resources always make a country wealthy or that a large population guarantees growth. They may confuse total GDP with GDP per person. They may also treat each factor as simply present or absent instead of judging its strength and limits.

How to Assess It

Give students a data table for North Korea and South Korea. Ask them to explain how two factors help account for the countries' different economic outcomes.

Ways to Teach It

  1. Sort country evidence cards onto four mats: human capital, capital goods, natural resources, and entrepreneurship, then explain two placements.

  2. Write a claim comparing North Korea and South Korea, using two growth factors and evidence from a class data table.

  3. Play a country clue game where teams identify the growth factor and country shown by each literacy, infrastructure, resource, or business clue.

  4. Trace smartphone production across China, India, Japan, and South Korea, linking each step to skills, equipment, resources, or entrepreneurship.
