What This Standard Means

What Students Need to Do

Students explain how entrepreneurs take risks, organize resources, create products, and start businesses. They connect entrepreneurship to jobs, innovation, competition, and economic growth across the five countries.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students can identify an entrepreneur in a scenario and describe that person’s risk and business decisions. They can explain how government rules may support or limit entrepreneurship.

Common Misconceptions

Students may confuse entrepreneurs with all workers or assume every business owner invents a new product. They may also think entrepreneurship operates equally in every economic system.

How to Assess It

Give students one prompt: A person invests savings to open a phone repair shop in India. Explain two ways this entrepreneur may support economic growth.

Ways to Teach It

  1. Give teams play money, supply cards, and customer cards to plan a small business and explain their risks and expected profits.

  2. Ask students to write: How might strict government control change a person’s decision to start a business?

  3. Play Entrepreneur or Employee by reading scenario cards and having students justify which role each person fills.

  4. Have students research one business founder from China, India, Japan, or South Korea and identify jobs, products, and risks connected to the business.
