What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students explain how people who start businesses combine resources, take risks, and respond to consumer needs. They connect entrepreneurship to jobs, new products, competition, and economic growth in the United Kingdom, Germany, and Russia.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can identify the entrepreneur in a business scenario and explain the risks and possible rewards. They can compare how laws, access to money, and government control affect business creation across the three countries.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think entrepreneurs are only inventors or wealthy business owners. They may assume every new business succeeds or that owners work alone. Some confuse private entrepreneurship with government ownership.
How to Assess It
- Give students a scenario about a person opening a bakery in one of the three countries. Ask them to name one risk and two ways the business could support economic growth.

Ways to Teach It
Give teams index cards, tokens, and supply slips, then have them design a business and explain each risk, resource choice, and possible job.
Ask students to write: How can one new business help workers, consumers, and the wider economy?
Play a sorting game matching business actions, such as hiring workers or creating products, with their effects on economic growth.
Choose a local business and map how its owner creates jobs, buys supplies, serves customers, and pays taxes.
