What Students Need to Do

Students explain how entrepreneurs spot opportunities, organize resources, and accept risk to start businesses. They connect new businesses to jobs, innovation, competition, and economic growth in Australia.

What Mastery Looks Like

Given an Australian start-up example, students can identify the entrepreneur’s choices and risks. They can trace how the business may create jobs, sell products, and increase economic activity.

Common Misconceptions

Students may think every employee or manager is an entrepreneur. They may also assume new businesses always succeed, or that earning profit is their only effect on the economy.

How to Assess It

Exit ticket: An Australian entrepreneur opens a solar panel company. Explain two ways the company could support economic growth and name one risk the entrepreneur takes.

Ways to Teach It

  1. Give groups labor, capital, and resource cards; have them build an Australian ecotour business and label one risk, job, and economic benefit.

  2. Ask students to write: How could a business idea that addresses drought create jobs and help Australia’s economy?

  3. Run a scenario sort where students label each person entrepreneur, employee, consumer, or investor and explain each choice.

  4. Read a short profile of Canva, then map how its founders’ idea, risk, hiring, and global sales affected Australia’s economy.
