Students use models and reliable sources to explain moon phases, eclipses, tides, and seasons. They connect each pattern to position, motion, or Earth's tilt.

Students can draw and label the sun, Earth, and moon for a named phase or eclipse. They can explain why seasons occur and predict basic tide patterns.

Common Misconceptions

Students often think Earth's shadow causes moon phases or that seasons result from changing distance from the sun. They may confuse rotation with revolution and assume every new or full moon produces an eclipse.

How to Assess It

Give students a diagram showing the sun, Earth, and moon. Ask them to identify the event shown and explain what causes it in two sentences.
