What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students ask a clear question about a topic they want to understand. With support, they use two or more books, pictures, videos, or interviews to find answers. They share accurate facts that match the question.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student asks a focused question and finds an answer in two teacher-selected sources. The student shares a relevant fact through speaking, drawing, or writing and identifies where it was found.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may share what they already believe instead of information from a source. They may copy an unrelated detail, treat a picture as proof, or confuse a question with an answer.
How to Assess It
- Show a short animal page and a labeled photograph. Ask, “What question can these sources answer, and what fact would you share?”

Ways to Teach It
Set out two animal books and photo cards, then have pairs find and draw one fact that answers a class question.
Read two short sources, then ask, “Which fact best answers our question, and where did you find it?”
Play Fact Finder Bingo, with students marking pictured facts only after locating each one in a book or teacher-provided page.
Research a school helper using a short interview and a photo page, then create a class poster showing two accurate facts.
