What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students place familiar events in order. They use words such as first, next, before, after, yesterday, and today to explain the sequence.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students correctly arrange pictures from a familiar routine. They explain the order with time words and notice when an event is out of place.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may reverse before and after or treat yesterday and tomorrow as the same. They may order pictures by size or position instead of what happened.
How to Assess It
- Give students three shuffled pictures of arriving at school, hanging up a backpack, and sitting on the rug. Ask them to number and explain the order.

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs four picture cards showing planting a seed; students arrange them, then retell the sequence using first, next, and last.
Ask students to name what happened before and after lunch, then record their answers on a class timeline.
Play Sequence Relay with three daily routine cards, having teams race to order them and explain their choices.
Use a picture recipe for a snack, and have students identify which step must happen first, next, and last.
