What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students place events in the order they happened. They use dates, time words, and simple timelines to describe what came before, after, and between events.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can arrange several events correctly and explain the sequence using evidence from dates or clues. The student can read and create a simple timeline.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may confuse the earliest event with the event placed highest on a page. They may also treat years like page numbers, thinking a larger year happened longer ago.
How to Assess It
- Give students four dated events from a familiar story. Ask them to order the events and write one sentence using before, after, or between.
