What Students Need to Do

Students put events in the order they happened. They use words such as first, next, then, before, after, and last to describe time.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students correctly sequence three or more events from a story, school day, or personal experience. They can explain their order using time words.

Common Misconceptions

Students may confuse before and after or assume the most exciting event happened first. They may place events by importance instead of by time.

How to Assess It

Give students four picture cards showing a child planting and watering a seed, then seeing it sprout. Ask them to order and describe the pictures.

   Give pairs picture cards showing a morning routine, then have them arrange the cards and label each event with a time word.

   Ask students to draw three events from yesterday and write one sentence for each using first, next, and last.

   Play a sequencing relay where teams race to arrange mixed-up story pictures and explain the correct order.

4. 04

   Create a class timeline of the school day using clock pictures, activity labels, and student drawings.
