What Students Need to Do: Students place personal or school events in time order. They use photos, dated schoolwork, invitations, or notices as evidence and add simple dates or captions.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student correctly orders several events from earliest to latest. The student matches each event with a source and explains how that source shows when it happened.
Common Misconceptions: Students may order events by importance instead of time. They may treat a new drawing of an old event as evidence from the time, or confuse the source date with the event date.
How to Assess It: Give students copies of three dated class artifacts and three blank timeline boxes. Ask them to order the artifacts and explain one choice using evidence from a source.

Lesson moves

Students bring three copied family photos, place them in order on a paper strip, and add a date or time word.
Show a dated class photo and lunch menu, then ask students to write which event happened first and name the evidence.
Teams race to arrange copies of dated school notices, photos, and student work, then check the sequence against a calendar.
Students compare dated photos from a school celebration to help the librarian build a display showing how the event unfolded.
