Students use maps, graphs, and location data to explain current events and public problems. They identify geographic patterns and use evidence to suggest solutions.

Students choose an appropriate map or graph and identify a relevant pattern. They explain how location, distance, resources, or environment affects an issue and support a practical response.

Common Misconceptions

Students may treat maps as pictures instead of sources of evidence. They may confuse correlation with cause or suggest solutions without considering location, scale, cost, or affected communities.

How to Assess It

Give students a Florida population map and ask: Where should a new hurricane shelter be placed, and what map evidence supports your choice?
