What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students combine text, images, audio, charts, or video so ideas fit together clearly. They collaborate with peers, make purposeful media choices, and revise their work.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students select media that supports the main point and links ideas clearly. They can explain their choices, use digital tools correctly, and revise after peer feedback.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may add images or sounds only for decoration. They may also choose media that repeats the text, distracts the audience, or weakens the connection between ideas.
How to Assess It
- Give students a short paragraph and three possible visuals. Ask them to choose one and explain how it connects the paragraph’s ideas.

Ways to Teach It
Give groups a short article and image bank, then have them build three slides where each visual directly supports the main claim.
Ask students to explain in writing which media choice best connects two ideas and why.
Run a media-match game where teams pair claims with charts, photos, or audio clips, then defend each choice.
Have students create a one-minute school announcement using narration, captions, and one visual to make the message easy to follow.
