What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students combine written or spoken ideas with useful digital elements, such as images, audio, video, charts, or links. They connect each element to the main message so the whole task feels unified.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students select media that adds useful evidence or explanation. They arrange text, visuals, audio, or video in a clear order and use captions and transitions to connect each part.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may add images, music, or video only for decoration. They may also place media beside text without captions, transitions, or explanations that connect it to the main idea.
How to Assess It
- Give students a claim, a chart, and a short audio clip. Ask them to build one slide with captions that connect both media pieces to the claim.

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs a paragraph, photo, chart, and audio clip, then have them build two connected slides with captions and transitions.
Compare two sample slides and write which one feels more connected, citing the placement, captions, and media choices.
Play Media Match by pairing claim cards with image, audio, chart, and video cards, then explain each match.
Create a one-minute school announcement using narration, photos, and a data graphic that all reinforce one clear message.
