What This Standard Means

What Students Need to Do

Students draft, revise, format, and publish writing with a word processor or shared document. They choose suitable sharing settings and use comments or suggestions to collaborate safely.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students create a readable digital document, revise it with editing tools, and format it for the intended reader. They share a working link with suitable access settings and respond to feedback appropriately.

Common Misconceptions

Students may think polished writing means adding many fonts, colors, or images. They may share the wrong link, choose incorrect permissions, or assume every online source and image is free to use.

How to Assess It

Give students a short draft to revise in a shared document. Check that they correct two errors, add a clear title, and submit a working view-only link.

Ways to Teach It

  1. Have students type a paragraph in a shared document, add a title, correct errors, and set the link to view-only.

  2. Ask students to explain when a document should be private, shared with classmates, or open to the public.

  3. Run a permissions challenge where pairs inspect sample sharing settings and earn points for identifying access problems.

  4. Students create and share a one-page digital announcement for a real school club, event, or classroom need.
