What This Standard Means

What Students Need to Do

Students plan, draft, revise, and publish one piece with classmates using shared digital spaces. They choose tools for specific jobs, track changes, exchange feedback, and combine ideas.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students choose suitable tools for planning, drafting, feedback, and publishing. They make useful edits, explain suggestions, respond to peers, and combine contributions into one clear piece. Version history shows active participation.

Common Misconceptions

Students may split the work, paste separate sections together, and call that collaboration. They may leave vague comments, change a peer’s work without explanation, or focus only on formatting. They may use several tools without choosing each one for a clear purpose.

How to Assess It

In groups of three, have students revise one paragraph in a shared document. Each student must make a tracked edit, leave a specific comment, and respond to one peer.

Ways to Teach It

  1. Give teams a scrambled paragraph, then have students use a shared document, comments, and version history to reorganize and revise it.

  2. Ask students to write: Which digital tool best supports planning, feedback, or publishing, and why?

  3. Run a collaboration relay where each student adds one revision, leaves one specific comment, and responds to a teammate within six minutes.

  4. Have groups create a school event announcement using a shared document for drafting and a slide tool for final publication.
