What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students create a short piece in a word processor or slide app. They type, add a title or image, make simple edits, and share the finished work safely.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can open a file, enter and revise text, use basic formatting, and save the work. The student can take turns with a partner and ask an adult for help when needed.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat the first typed draft as finished and skip rereading. They may change fonts or colors instead of improving the message. Partners may overwrite each other's work, forget to save, or share personal information.
How to Assess It
- Give this exit ticket: Type three sentences about a favorite recess activity, correct one mistake, add a title, save the file, and submit it.

Ways to Teach It
Pairs create a three-page digital animal book, with one student typing and the other adding pictures, then switch roles.
Ask, “How can a partner improve your digital story?” Students write one suggestion, then discuss helpful feedback.
Run a formatting scavenger hunt: students open a sample file, find the title, fix one typo, add spacing, and save.
Students publish a digital thank-you note to a school worker, adding a greeting, message, name, and appropriate image.
