What This Standard Means

What Students Need to Do

Students choose a simple digital tool, such as a drawing app or word processor, to create a short piece. They add words or pictures, save their work, and share it alone or with a partner using adult help.

What Mastery Looks Like

A student types a clear sentence, adds a related picture, and saves the file with adult help when needed. The student can work alone or take turns with a partner, then share the finished piece in the assigned place.

Common Misconceptions

Students may think taking a photo or opening an app means their work is finished. They may also confuse saving with sharing, or delete a partner’s work instead of adding to it.

How to Assess It

Give each student a device and this prompt: “Type one sentence about your favorite animal, add a picture, save it, and show me where you would share it.”

Ways to Teach It

  1. Give pairs a tablet to type one sentence, add a matching picture, save the file, and place it in a shared class folder.

  2. Have students answer: “Which tool helped you add words or pictures, and how did your partner help?”

  3. Play Digital Tool Match by matching task cards, such as typing or drawing, to the app used for each task.

  4. Create a two-sentence class newsletter item with a picture, then share the finished page with families through the school platform.
