What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students work with others to plan, draft, revise, and present a shared product. They contribute ideas, make decisions, give specific feedback, and combine individual work coherently.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students contribute useful ideas, complete agreed tasks, and help shape one coherent final product. They explain revision choices and use peer feedback when it improves the work.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may divide the work without discussing how the parts fit together. They may treat feedback as proofreading only, or accept every suggestion without judging its value.
How to Assess It
- Give pairs a short paragraph with unclear organization. Ask them to revise it together, then submit the revision and name one change each partner contributed.

Ways to Teach It
Give groups sentence strips from a mixed-up argument, then have them arrange, revise, and combine the ideas into one clear paragraph.
Ask students to write which peer suggestion they accepted, rejected, or changed, and explain each decision with evidence from the draft.
Run a revision relay where each student improves one feature, such as focus, evidence, organization, wording, or conventions.
Have teams create a one-page school event proposal with a purpose, audience, schedule, budget, and assigned editing roles.
