What Students Need to Do

Students create oral or written work that combines words with images, audio, or other media. They choose and arrange those elements to highlight key ideas and work with others to improve the result.

Students select images, audio, text features, or other media that support a clear message. They arrange elements for emphasis, explain their choices, and revise the work with a partner.

Common Misconceptions

Students may add pictures, sound, or effects only for decoration. They may overcrowd a page or presentation, or treat collaboration as splitting work without checking how the parts fit together.

How to Assess It

Give students a short paragraph and three possible images. Ask them to choose one, place it for emphasis, and explain their choice in one sentence.

   Give groups printed text, image, caption, and heading cards to arrange into a clear one-page message with one emphasized idea.

   Ask students to compare two slides and write which one emphasizes the main idea better, citing one design choice.

   Play Multimedia Match, where pairs match short messages with images, sound clips, or text features and justify each match.

   Have teams create a digital school event announcement, choosing layout, images, and text that help families notice the key details.
