What This Standard Means

What Students Need to Do

Students plan, draft, and revise a piece with classmates in a shared online workspace. They choose language, layout, and media for a named audience. They export a clean final file and check that every element works.

What Mastery Looks Like

A student uses comments, suggestions, and revision history to contribute and respond to peers. The final piece has a consistent voice, clear formatting, and media that supports the message. The exported file keeps its layout and works as intended.

Common Misconceptions

Students may treat group writing as separate paragraphs pasted together, rather than one consistent piece. They may add media only for decoration or forget captions and source credits. They may assume the shared document looks the same after export without checking links, spacing, and image placement.

How to Assess It

Give pairs 15 minutes to revise a school announcement for ninth graders, add one useful visual, then submit the shared link and an exported PDF.

Ways to Teach It

  1. Have pairs turn a plain lunch policy into a one page family flyer in Google Docs, add a useful visual, and export it.

  2. Show two versions of a club announcement and ask students to explain which better fits new students and why.

  3. Run a revision relay where teammates rotate through roles for wording, layout, media, links, and final export checks.

  4. Create a digital event announcement for a real school club, then ask the club adviser to review it before publication.
