What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students plan, create, revise, and share written or multimedia work for a specific audience and purpose. They make decisions with others, use feedback, and credit sources.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students produce a clear, polished text or media product that fits its audience and purpose. They use feedback, explain revision choices, and contribute reliably to group decisions.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat collaboration as dividing the work and combining pieces without review. They may also add visuals or media that distract from the message or lack clear credit.
How to Assess It
- Give groups a weak one-slide announcement. Ask them to revise its wording, layout, and source credit, then submit one sentence explaining each change.

Ways to Teach It
Give teams a cluttered school flyer to cut apart, reorganize, and rebuild with paper, markers, and a clear visual hierarchy.
Ask students to write which revision improved a shared draft most, then support their choice with evidence from the draft.
Run a revision relay where teams rotate through drafts, improving clarity, organization, evidence, and media choices at separate stations.
Have groups create a public service post for a real school concern, with an audience, call to action, image, and credited source.
