What This Standard Means

What Students Need to Do

Students plan and build digital presentations for a clear purpose and audience. They evaluate choices such as slide design, organization, media, evidence, delivery, source credit, and accessibility.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students create a focused presentation with clear organization, readable slides, useful media, and accurate source credit. They use specific criteria to evaluate the presentation and explain purposeful revisions.

Common Misconceptions

Students may fill slides with paragraphs, use distracting effects, or read every word aloud. They may judge a presentation only by appearance instead of checking clarity, evidence, audience fit, and accessibility.

How to Assess It

Give students one crowded slide and this prompt: Redesign it for a school board audience, then name two changes that make it more effective.

Ways to Teach It

  1. Give pairs a weak five-slide deck to revise using a checklist for purpose, organization, readability, media, sources, and accessibility.

  2. Ask students to write which matters more, visual appeal or clear communication, then defend their answer with two presentation examples.

  3. Run a slide makeover contest where teams improve one cluttered slide and classmates score each version with the same rubric.

  4. Have students build a three-slide proposal for a real school improvement, aimed at the principal, student council, or parent group.
