What This Standard Means

What Students Need to Do

Students plan and build a digital presentation for a specific audience and purpose. They choose text, visuals, audio, layout, and pacing that make the message clear, engaging, and accessible.

What Mastery Looks Like

A student creates a clear, well-paced presentation with readable text, purposeful media, and a consistent design. Each digital choice supports the message, fits the audience, and includes needed accessibility features and source credits.

Common Misconceptions

Students may treat slides as a script, filling them with paragraphs that compete with the speaker. They may add decorative images, animations, or audio that distract, or overlook font size, contrast, captions, and source credits.

How to Assess It

Give students one crowded slide and ask: “Redesign this slide for a live audience, then explain two choices that make the message easier to follow.”

Ways to Teach It

  1. Give pairs a cluttered slide to rebuild using one key idea, large type, strong contrast, and one purposeful visual.

  2. Ask students to compare two slides and write which better serves the audience, citing layout, readability, pacing, and media choices.

  3. Run a slide makeover challenge where teams earn points for clarity, visual purpose, accessibility, and accurate source credits.

  4. Have students create a three-slide proposal for a school improvement and present it to classmates acting as student council members.
