What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students combine words, images, sound, video, and layout so each mode adds information the others do not. They track how several modes work at once. They shape the final message for a specific audience and purpose.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can explain what each mode contributes and identify meaning lost when one mode is removed. They can produce a clear media piece whose visuals, words, sound, and layout suit the intended audience.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat images and music as decoration or repeat the same information in every mode. They may add too many effects, miss conflicting messages across modes, or ignore audience needs such as readable text and captions.
How to Assess It
- Show a 30-second advertisement. On an exit ticket, students name one message carried by visuals, one carried by sound or words, and explain how removing one mode changes meaning.
