What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students name work people do at home, at school, and around the neighborhood. They explain that people work to earn money, meet needs, and help others.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can identify familiar workers and describe what each person does. The student can give a clear reason someone might do that job.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may call every household chore a paid job or think only adults with uniforms have jobs. They may also believe people work only to make money, not to help others or provide needed services.
How to Assess It
- Show pictures of a caregiver, teacher, and firefighter. Ask each student to name one job, describe the work, and explain why the person does it.

Ways to Teach It
Have students sort worker picture cards into home, school, and community groups, then explain one choice.
Ask, “What job would be hard for our school to go without, and why?” Record or draw the response.
Play job charades with cards showing tasks such as cooking, teaching, delivering mail, repairing pipes, and caring for children.
Take a school walk to spot workers, then ask one worker what they do and why their job helps the school.
