What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students name work that people do where they live, learn, and spend time nearby. They match workers with their usual workplaces and describe a simple duty.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can identify familiar workers such as a cook, teacher, custodian, nurse, firefighter, or mail carrier. The student can tell where each person works and what the person does.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may name chores instead of the person responsible for them. They may also think every worker wears a uniform or works in only one place.
How to Assess It
- Give each student pictures of a teacher, parent cooking, and firefighter. Ask, “Where does each person work, and what job do they do?”

Ways to Teach It
Set up three labeled mats and have students sort worker picture cards by where each person usually works.
Ask students to draw one worker they know and dictate a sentence explaining what that person does.
Play Worker Charades, with students acting out tasks while classmates name the worker and workplace.
Take a short school walk to spot adults working, then make a class chart of their roles and tasks.
