What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students draw a simple map of a familiar place using shapes, symbols, and labels. They use a map to locate places and describe how to move between them.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students place key features in reasonable locations and explain what their symbols represent. They can follow or give a simple route using the map.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may draw objects from the side instead of showing where they are from above. They may confuse a map with a picture or leave symbols unexplained.
How to Assess It
- Give students a simple classroom map and ask them to mark the door, circle the teacher table, and draw a route between them.
