- Culture. The student understands the relationships between and among people from various groups, including racial, ethnic, and religious groups, during the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The student is expected to:
identify the political, social, and economic contributions of women to American society.

What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students name women who shaped the United States and explain what each woman did. They classify each contribution as political, social, economic, or more than one, then describe its effect.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students use accurate examples such as the Seneca Falls Convention, abolition work, wartime service, reform movements, and textile mill labor. They connect specific women and actions to changes in laws, public life, working conditions, or the economy.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may describe women only as supporters of famous men or list names without explaining their impact. They may also treat political contributions as elected office only, ignoring petitions, speeches, organizing, and reform campaigns.
How to Assess It
- Give students profiles of Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Lowell mill workers. Ask them to label each contribution and explain one effect in two sentences.

Give groups source cards about women reformers, workers, writers, and organizers to sort into political, social, economic, or overlapping contributions.
Ask students to write which had greater impact, the Seneca Falls Convention or women's work in abolition, using two specific facts.
