What Students Need to Do
- Students trace how the war and Reconstruction changed Texas government, work, trade, and daily life. They connect each change to emancipation, wartime conditions, or federal policies.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can describe an effect and explain what caused it. They use accurate examples, such as Black male voting, sharecropping, public schools, new state constitutions, and racial violence.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think Reconstruction only repaired physical damage. They may assume emancipation brought immediate equality or confuse political rights with equal social treatment. They may also overlook wartime shortages and labor changes.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Write one political, one economic, and one social effect in Texas. For each effect, name the event or policy that caused it.
