- Students explain how the war changed Texas politics, labor, the economy, and daily life. They connect Reconstruction policies to emancipation, citizenship, voting rights, and conflict over those changes.

- Students can name several effects and support each with a clear fact. They can compare Texas before and after the war using accurate cause-and-effect statements.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think most Civil War fighting happened in Texas or that life changed immediately when the war ended. They may also assume emancipation brought equal rights and safety at once.
How to Assess It
- Give students a two-column exit ticket labeled Civil War and Reconstruction. Ask them to list two effects of each on Texas and explain one connection.
