What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students place events by date and describe what happened before, after, or at the same time. They group evidence, compare accounts, explain causes and results, summarize central points, and use clues to make supported conclusions or predictions.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Given a short Texas history source set, students build an accurate timeline, sort evidence, and explain how events connect. Their summary states the central point without copying, and each conclusion cites a specific detail.
Common Misconceptions
- Students often assume the event listed first caused the next event, even when dates or evidence show otherwise. They may retell every detail instead of summarizing, or make conclusions based on prior knowledge rather than the source.
How to Assess It
- Give students four dated statements about the Texas Revolution. Ask them to order the events, mark one cause and result, write a two-sentence summary, and support one inference.
